Sunishma Singh, a resident of Sigatoka, recently showcased her commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental resilience by representing Fiji in the Face of Beauty International 2024 competition in Taiwan, which took place from September 9 to 23. During the event, she was awarded the title of Miss Continental Oceania, recognizing her embodiment of beauty, intelligence, and leadership.
Expressing her gratitude, Singh remarked, “It was an absolute honour and one of the proudest moments of my life.” She emphasized her motivation to use her platform to advocate for sustainable practices and positive changes, particularly in relation to climate change.
At 28 years old, Singh works as a sustainability officer for Tourism Fiji and is an accredited member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. She has a bachelor’s degree in geospatial information systems and geography, along with a postgraduate diploma in climate change from the University of the South Pacific.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Singh runs a successful business, Singhs Herbal Hair Oil, whose products are available in 65 supermarkets across the nation. To prepare mentally for the pageant, she engaged in Bible reading and prayer, bolstering her focus on representing Fiji authentically.
She shared her enthusiasm for showcasing Fiji’s warmth, hospitality, and cultural diversity, as well as her commitment to promoting eco-friendly tourism and sustainable development. Singh stated, “Representing Fiji is both a great honour and a responsibility,” and highlighted her passion for climate resilience and empowering women.
Dedicated to supporting educational initiatives for young women in rural areas, Singh views her participation in the pageant as an opportunity to raise awareness about environmental stewardship on a global scale. She believes that everyone has the potential to bring about change in their communities, citing her journey as an entrepreneur and advocate as inspiration for others.
As she looks to the future, Singh aims to continue her advocacy for climate action while supporting local communities through entrepreneurial efforts.
