Fijian middle-distance star Yeshnil Karan made a significant impact over the weekend at the 2025 Chemist Warehouse Australian National Athletics Championships in Perth. The talented athlete not only achieved two personal bests but also secured his position among the top two all-time national rankings for both the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase events.

This remarkable performance comes just after Karan’s second-ever steeplechase race, where he clocked an impressive 9:02.08, finishing 8th in a competitive field. This time marks a significant improvement of 16 seconds from his previous personal best and places him second on Fiji’s all-time rankings, surpassing the performance of Olympian Davendra Rakash Singh from the 1992 Barcelona Games, and only trailing behind the legendary Usaia Sotutu, whose national record has stood for 44 years.

Additionally, Karan excelled in the 1500m event, achieving a personal best of 3:51.14, which is two seconds better than his previous record. This further cements his status as one of Fiji’s leading long-distance runners and sets the stage for a promising future in his athletic career.

These accomplishments reflect Karan’s ongoing dedication and improvement, reminiscent of his previous successes, including a gold medal at the 2023 Pacific Games and multiple national records. Karan’s journey is not just a personal triumph; it serves as an inspiration to young athletes in Fiji, illustrating how dedication and hard work can lead to extraordinary successes both nationally and internationally.

As he builds on this momentum, the excitement for his potential on the global stage continues to grow, providing hope for a bright future in Fijian athletics.
