A homecare agency owned by Fijians in the United States is taking significant steps to enhance the safety and well-being of its clients by ensuring that caregivers receive continuous training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid. Divine Fijians Home Care (DFHC) recognizes that effective CPR can significantly increase the chances of survival during cardiac emergencies—a crucial skill given that approximately 356,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur annually in the U.S., primarily affecting the elderly.

Recently, DFHC collaborated with Vive CPR, a certified training site by the American Heart Association, to train 23 caregivers in life-saving techniques. Such training is critical not only to adhere to California state requirements but also to prioritize the lives of clients. Vive CPR instructor Aaron Bates noted the caregivers’ eagerness to learn, emphasizing that CPR serves as a vital bridge that can sustain someone’s life until professional help arrives.

DFHC’s CEO, Poasa Koroitamana, reflected on the importance of this training: “The lives of those whom we care for are as important as ours.” He further stated that the agency aims to constantly advance its training methodologies, ensuring that caregivers are well-prepared for any emergencies that may arise.

This commitment to training comes during a year where DFHC has successfully trained 23 caregivers in CPR and first aid, along with an additional 30 caregivers receiving training as home care aides. Participant Rachelle Reese expressed confidence in applying her newly learned skills, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the training.

DFHC stands out as a respected provider of non-medical homecare services in California. The agency has garnered recognition as one of the Top 4 ‘Best of 2024 Home Care’ providers in Santa Rosa, underscoring its commitment to quality care and life-saving training.

In a broader context, this initiative reflects the ongoing efforts within the healthcare and caregiving sectors to enhance emergency preparedness and support the well-being of vulnerable populations. It is uplifting to see such proactive measures, showcasing the dedication and foresight of organizations like DFHC in addressing health crises effectively.
