Fiji Airways Fijian 7s athletes Joji Nasova and Iliavi Masori demonstrated remarkable commitment as they faced treacherous floodwaters on Thursday night in their determination to attend a training session in Suva. The pair set out from Toge Village in Ba, which had been heavily affected by rain and flooding.

Their journey was far from easy. Undeterred, they successfully navigated two flooded bridges in the dark, highlighting their determination to reach the High-Performance gym for their scheduled training on Friday morning. Nasova, 24, reflected on the experience, emphasizing the significance of hard work and self-sacrifice in pursuit of their goals.

After spending Christmas with family, Nasova and Masori made the late-night trek back to Suva, arriving at 3 AM. Despite their exhaustion, they managed to catch a few hours of sleep before heading to the gym. Nasova expressed his commitment to enhancing his fitness for the upcoming 7s series, reaffirming that overcoming such challenges is part of their dedication to representing Fiji on the global stage.

Nasova, who made his debut for Fiji at the HSBC Hong Kong 7s in April, has quickly made a name for himself with his impressive performances. The Fiji 7s team is currently gearing up for the Perth 7s tournament in Australia, which will take place from January 26 to 28. They will face tough competition, being placed in Pool C alongside New Zealand, France, and Samoa. Meanwhile, the women’s Fijiana team is also preparing, positioned in Pool B with Brazil, Spain, and France.

This story is a powerful example of the commitment and resilience required to pursue excellence in sports, showcasing the lengths to which athletes will go to achieve their goals. As the Fiji 7s team prepares for their upcoming competitions, their determination serves as an inspiring reminder of the spirit of dedication in sports.
