A delegation of seven Fijian youths has embarked on a journey to India to participate in the Republic Day Camp 2026, showcasing the strengthening ties between Fiji and India. The group was officially sent off on Tuesday by the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Shri Suneet Mehta, alongside Fiji’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru. Both officials emphasized the significance of the Youth Exchange Program as a vital platform for fostering youth development and enhancing bilateral relations.
Mr. Mehta highlighted that the program presents a valuable opportunity for young Fijians to engage directly with India’s political framework, cultural heritage, and national leadership. “This program is very significant for us as it not only brings young people from Fiji, one of India’s important partners, but also enables them to visit India and interact with policymakers and high-level dignitaries,” he remarked.
As part of their experience, the delegates will attend the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and partake in discussions with senior government officials, further facilitating high-level interactions. The itinerary also includes visits to notable national sites, such as the National War Memorial, National Museum, Prime Minister’s Museum, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Dilli Haat, alongside iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
Mr. Mehta noted that this initiative underscores the esteem India places on its relationship with Fiji. “This exchange offers participants an opportunity to experience India’s diversity and its rapid development firsthand,” he added.
Minister Saukuru expressed gratitude to the Government of India for sustaining the exchange program, stating how valuable it is for the youth’s personal and professional development. “This program creates opportunities for our youth to learn, grow and return home better equipped to contribute to their communities,” he stated, anticipating that the delegates will return with skills and insights that will enhance the lives of youth, families, and communities throughout Fiji.
This initiative not only aims to forge stronger connections between the two nations but also empowers young individuals to become valuable contributors to their society, promising a brighter future for Fiji and its youth.
