The Education Ministry in Fiji has announced a pass rate of 86 percent for the Year 13 Certificate Examination this year, a decrease from last year’s 91 percent. Despite this drop, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro praised schools that have shown improvement in their performance. Notably, two government schools, Adi Cakobau School and Vunisea Secondary, saw significant strides with the former increasing its pass rate from 97 percent to 98 percent, while the latter jumped from 83 percent to an impressive 97 percent.
Minister Radrodro expressed appreciation for the ten secondary schools that achieved a perfect 100 percent pass rate, including Nadarivatu Secondary, Nilsen High, and Jai Narayan College among others. He emphasized the importance of communication between parents and children regarding their academic results, encouraging them to discuss potential paths forward, be it higher education, vocational training, or entering the workforce.
Acknowledging the hard work of teachers, students, and parents, Radrodro looks forward to their continued collaboration to support students in achieving their academic ambitions. He urged all students pursuing further education to remain focused on their goals.
This year’s results, while showing a slight decrease, highlight the resilience and dedication of Fijian schools and their communities, yielding positive outcomes for many students ready to embark on their next chapter. The ongoing support from families and educators remains crucial in empowering students to reach their highest potential.
