The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is excited to announce that the upcoming women’s super league will feature six teams this season, a structural change aimed at boosting the competition’s intensity and overall quality of football. This new format excludes one team from last season, allowing for a more competitive environment, according to Fiji FA Media.

Shaniya Shankar, competitions manager for Fiji FA, emphasized that the streamlined format ensures participation only from the most competitive teams, which, in turn, will promise fans an exhilarating experience throughout the season. “This change aligns with Fiji FA’s vision to raise the standard of women’s football and adequately prepare players for increased competitive levels, including regional and international tournaments,” she stated.

A round-robin playoff is scheduled for next month involving the three lowest-ranked teams from last season—Suva, Tailevu Naitasiri, and Nadroga. The outcome will determine which teams will secure their places in the super league this season.

The league’s focus on enhancing competitiveness is further highlighted by Ba women’s team’s qualification for the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) women’s Champions League in Tahiti, showcasing the progress of women’s football in Fiji and reinforcing the league’s importance as a developmental platform.

This restructuring aims not only to elevate football standards but also to enhance the experience for both players and fans, signaling a promising future for women’s football in Fiji. As the league prepares for its new season, Fijian supporters can look forward to thrilling matches and the rise of local talent on an international stage.

Overall, the Fiji FA’s commitment to enhancing women’s football is a testament to their broader vision for the sport’s growth in the region, aiming to foster a vibrant footballing culture that nurtures talent and attracts fan engagement.
