With the FIFA Women’s World Cup Oceania Qualifiers just weeks away in Ba, Fiji, the Kula women’s football team is intensifying its preparations. Newly appointed head coach Nicola Demaine, who took over less than two weeks ago, acknowledges the considerable work ahead in getting the team competition-ready.

The current training focus is on streamlining game strategies and enhancing team cohesion. The Kulas will compete against Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu in Group B, with all matches scheduled to take place at the 4R Govind Park in Ba.

Demaine shared positive insights from the training camp, saying, “Things are going really well in camp. We’ve got 22 players here and everyone has now been fitness assessed, so we’ve started our fitness program. The girls have been doing endurance training, they were in the gym yesterday, and we’ve also had some really good on-field sessions.”

The qualifiers are set to kick off on the 27th, starting with Papua New Guinea playing Vanuatu at 12 PM, followed by Fiji taking on New Caledonia at 4 PM.

The competition heats up on March 2nd, with New Caledonia facing Vanuatu at noon before Fiji battles Papua New Guinea at 4 PM. The group stage will wind down on March 5th, featuring Fiji versus Vanuatu at 12 PM and Papua New Guinea against New Caledonia at 4 PM.

As the tournament approaches, the Kulas are eager to show their readiness and skill on the international stage, capturing the hopes of fans and aspiring athletes alike.
