The Digicel Fiji Women’s Futsal team is all set to face Tahiti today at 5 PM as they kick off their campaign in the inaugural OFC Women’s Futsal Nations Cup 2024 in the Solomon Islands.
Led by head coach Jerry Sam, the team features a carefully chosen lineup of top players from all over Fiji, with hopes of making a significant impact in the tournament. Sam acknowledged the difficulty in selecting the players due to the wealth of talent available in Fiji.
Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful about the skills and potential of his selected squad.
The tournament includes five participating teams. Following their match against Tahiti, Fiji will face Tonga tomorrow, New Zealand on Monday, and the host nation, Solomon Islands, on Thursday.
The team’s primary aim is to achieve victory in the tournament and secure a chance to represent Oceania in the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines next year.
