The Digicel Fiji Women’s Futsal team is set to face Tahiti at 5 PM today in the opening match of the OFC Women’s Futsal Nations Cup 2024, taking place in the Solomon Islands.
Led by head coach Jerry Sam, the team comprises top players from around Fiji, selected with great care and high expectations for a strong performance in the tournament. Sam expressed that choosing the squad was challenging due to the wealth of talent available in Fiji, but he remains confident in the abilities of the selected athletes to excel on the field.
The tournament will feature five teams, with Fiji’s next matches lined up against Tonga tomorrow, New Zealand on Monday, and the host nation, Solomon Islands, on Thursday. The primary objective for the team is to claim victory in the tournament, which would secure their place to represent Oceania in the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Philippines next year.
