The Digicel Fiji Women’s Futsal team is set to face Tahiti today at 5 PM in the first OFC Women’s Futsal Nations Cup 2024 held in the Solomon Islands. Head coach Jerry Sam has assembled a squad of top players from across Fiji, aiming to make a strong impression in the tournament.
Sam mentioned that choosing the players was challenging due to the wealth of talent in Fiji, but he expresses confidence in the abilities of those selected and their potential to excel on the field.
The competition features five teams, with Fiji’s upcoming matches against Tonga tomorrow, New Zealand on Monday, and the host nation, Solomon Islands, on Thursday. The primary objective is to win the tournament and earn a chance to represent Oceania in the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, scheduled for next year in the Philippines.
