The Digicel Fiji Women’s Futsal team achieved their second victory at the OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup, triumphing over Tonga with a decisive 4-0 scoreline.
Under the guidance of coach Jerry Sam, Fiji started the match strongly, scoring within the first ten seconds. Sofi Diyalowai capitalized on a blunder in the Tongan defense, shooting confidently past goalkeeper Kalolaine Topui.
Despite the early setback, Tonga responded well, applying pressure to limit Fiji’s opportunities as they aimed to extend their lead.
Koleta Likuculacula proved to be a key player for Fiji but was unable to convert her chances against Topui, who delivered a commendable performance, keeping the score at 1-0 by halftime.
The second half saw Tonga once again falter early, allowing Likuculacula to score and effectively seal the match for Fiji.
Both teams will take a day off before Fiji faces New Zealand and Tonga competes against hosts Solomon Islands.
