Four exceptional players from the ANZ Marama Cup have been chosen to join the extended squad of the Vodafone Fijiana XV for two test matches against Scotland and the Netherlands later this month. The selected athletes, all representing the Suva Women’s team, are Alisi Galo, Alfreda Fisher, Adi Salaseini Railumu, and Ivamere Nabura.
This selection underscores the achievements of the ANZ Marama Cup, a vital local competition that serves as a key platform for identifying and developing rugby talent in Fiji. Mike Legge, coach of Fiji Rugby’s High Performance Women’s Program, expressed his enthusiasm regarding their inclusion in the squad.
“It’s a very special moment for the HPU Women’s Program to have these new girls selected into the Fijiana squad for the upcoming tour. Currently, we have 12 players from our High-Performance group in that squad,” Legge stated.
He highlighted the importance of local competitions in creating opportunities for players aiming to reach national and international levels. “The dream of every HPU girl is to don the Fijiana jersey and make it to the Fijiana Drua. Their selection shows that the pathway is available for our local players, especially those in the ANZ Marama Cup,” he added.
