The Digicel Fiji Women’s Futsal team achieved their second victory at the OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup by defeating Tonga 4-0.
Coach Jerry Sam’s team started the match explosively, scoring just ten seconds in. Sofi Diyalowai capitalized on a mistake from the Tongan defense to net an early goal against goalkeeper Kalolaine Topui.
Tonga responded effectively, working hard to limit Fiji’s opportunities and regain control of the match. Koleta Likuculacula was a standout player for Tonga but was unable to beat Topui, who delivered a commendable performance to keep the score at 1-0 by halftime.
However, after the break, Tonga conceded another early goal as Likuculacula, following up on a strong opening match performance, extended Fiji’s lead, making it difficult for Tonga to recover.
Both teams will enjoy a day’s rest before Fiji faces New Zealand and Tonga takes on the hosts, Solomon Islands.
