A 51-year-old woman has been charged by the Fiji Police Cybercrime Task Force after allegedly deceiving a victim into providing nearly $1,000 for a fraudulent investment opportunity. The incident reportedly occurred on September 1, 2023, when the victim, who lives in Lami, made the payment via online banking, hoping to receive a promised profit of $5,000.

After not receiving the expected return, the victim lodged a complaint at the Nabua Police Station, resulting in the charges against the accused. She will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today to face one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

This case highlights the importance of vigilance in online financial transactions and serves as a reminder for individuals to thoroughly research investment opportunities to avoid falling victim to scams. As technology advances, so do the tactics employed by fraudsters, making it essential for the public to stay informed and cautious.
