Vinaya Habosi, a winger for Racing 92 and the Fiji national team, has reportedly been detained following an incident involving a violent confrontation with his partner. The arrest occurred on Sunday night at his residence in Plessis-Robinson, Hauts-de-Seine, after a dispute that witnesses described as intoxicated in nature.
Reports indicate that the argument escalated when Habosi allegedly pushed his wife, who was holding their baby at the time. Witnesses claim that after she fell, he began striking her on the back of the head. Fortunately, it appears that the child was not harmed during the incident, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency responders, displaying no visible injuries.
According to sources, Habosi was intoxicated during the altercation, yet he contested the allegations, asserting that he did not physically harm his wife. Prior to this incident, he had participated as a substitute in Racing 92’s recent game, contributing to a 33-20 win against Clermont in the Top 14.
In response to the situation, Racing 92 issued a short statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi. The club indicated that it will refrain from further comments until more information is provided by relevant authorities.
This incident marks a concerning pattern for Habosi, as he previously faced allegations of domestic abuse. His contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated after a complaint regarding an assault was reported to the Namaka Police Station last February, leading the club to take action ahead of the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.
