Racing 92 and Fiji winger Vinaya Habosi has reportedly been arrested following a violent incident involving his partner.
According to French reports, Habosi was taken into custody on Sunday evening after a drunken dispute at his residence in Plessis-Robinson, Hauts-de-Seine. Witnesses informed Le Parisien that an argument escalated between Habosi and his wife, resulting in him pushing her while she was holding their baby.
Following her fall, Habosi allegedly began to punch her in the back of the head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed during the incident, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services and showed no visible injuries.
Sources report that Habosi appeared intoxicated and denied having pushed or struck his wife. He participated as a substitute for Racing 92 in their 33-20 win against Clermont on Saturday in the Top 14.
Racing 92 has released a statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi but stated they would withhold further comments pending updates from the relevant authorities.
This incident is not the first time Habosi has faced domestic abuse allegations. He joined Racing 92 earlier than planned last year after his contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated due to an assault complaint that was filed at the Namaka Police Station in February of the previous year, leading to the Drua’s decision to release him before the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.
