Fiji is set to welcome United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau for an official visit from today until March 1, 2026. The primary objective of this visit is to enhance bilateral relations between the United States and Fiji.

During his stay, Landau is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other senior government officials. The discussions will focus on strategic cooperation aimed at fostering Fiji’s national development and reinforcing regional solidarity among Pacific nations.

A significant aspect of the visit will be the signing of the Compact Development Funding Agreement between the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Fiji. This agreement is designed to promote private sector-led growth, trade, and investment opportunities in Fiji, which could lead to improved economic outcomes for the nation.

Landau’s visit is part of a broader tour across the Pacific, which also includes stops in Hawaii, Tonga, and Samoa, following his participation in the Pacific Agenda Summit at the East-West Centre in Honolulu earlier this week. This acknowledgment of Fiji’s role in regional dynamics highlights the increasing importance of Pacific nations in global discussions.

This visit not only signifies a commitment to strengthening ties but also reflects a hopeful outlook for enhanced collaboration in various sectors between the United States and Fiji. Such initiatives may pave the way for substantial growth and development in the coming years.
