Fiji Welcomes New Presidential Leader: Ratu Naiqama Takes Office!

Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has been elected as the new President of Fiji. This significant decision was made during a special parliamentary sitting today, where members cast their votes.

The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, nominated Ratu Naiqama for the presidential role, while the Opposition Leader, Inia Seruiratu, put forward Ratu Meli Tora, the Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council, as an alternative nominee. In a decisive outcome, Ratu Naiqama secured the presidency with a total of 37 votes, compared to Ratu Meli’s 16 votes.

This election marks a new chapter in Fiji’s political landscape and reflects the confidence of the parliamentary members in Ratu Naiqama’s leadership. As the country looks forward, many hope that his presidency will foster unity and progress.
