Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has officially been elected as the new President of Fiji, following a parliamentary vote held during a special session today. The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, nominated Ratu Naiqama for the prestigious role, while the opposition leader, Inia Seruiratu, put forth Ratu Meli Tora, Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council, as an alternative candidate.
In the voting process, Ratu Naiqama emerged victorious with 37 votes, surpassing Ratu Meli Tora, who received 16 votes. This election marks a significant moment in Fiji’s political landscape, bringing forth a leadership change that may open doors for new initiatives and policies under Ratu Naiqama’s presidency.
