Fiji Welcomes New President: Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Takes Office

Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, known as the Turaga na Tui Cakau, has been elected as Fiji’s new President. This significant decision was reached during a special parliamentary session held today.

The nomination process saw Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka putting forth Ratu Naiqama as a candidate, while Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, nominated Ratu Meli Tora, the Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council. Ultimately, Ratu Naiqama emerged victorious, receiving 37 votes compared to Ratu Meli’s 16 votes.

This election marks a new chapter for Fiji’s leadership, as Ratu Naiqama steps into his role with the support of the majority of the parliament. His experience and leadership are expected to guide Fiji through its current challenges, and many are hopeful that his presidency will foster unity and progress within the nation.
