Fiji has welcomed a new Cabinet Minister, Hon. Sashi Kiran, who took her oath today as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. The ceremony was officiated by His Excellency the President, Turaga Bale Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House. Minister Kiran steps into this role after serving as the Assistant Minister under her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya.
Kiran brings a wealth of experience to her new position as she is a dedicated social worker and founder of FRIEND Fiji, an NGO based in Lautoka that focuses on rural integrated enterprises and development. Her extensive background in social work will be vital in addressing the needs of women and children in Fiji.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, indicating the significance and support surrounding Kiran’s new appointment.
This development holds promise for the future as Kiran’s appointment could lead to positive changes in policies and initiatives affecting women, children, and social welfare in Fiji. With her expertise and commitment to social issues, there is hope for a more inclusive approach in her ministerial responsibilities.
