Fiji has welcomed its newest Cabinet Minister, Hon. Sashi Kiran, who took her oath as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. The ceremony was presided over by His Excellency the President, Turaga Bale Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House.

Minister Kiran takes over the role from Lynda Tabuya, having previously served as the Assistant Minister under her leadership. With a strong background in social work, Kiran is the founder of FRIEND Fiji (the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development), an NGO based in Lautoka.

The event was also attended by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, reflecting the importance of this appointment within the government.

This transition offers an opportunity for fresh perspectives and initiatives in the vital areas of women’s, children’s, and social protection in Fiji. Minister Kiran’s extensive experience in social work suggests she is well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to these sectors. Her leadership may pave the way for enhanced support mechanisms and programs aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups in society.
