Fiji has welcomed its new Cabinet Minister, Hon. Sashi Kiran, who was sworn in today as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House and was presided over by His Excellency the President, Turaga Bale Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
Minister Kiran steps into this role succeeding Lynda Tabuya after serving as her Assistant Minister. With a rich background in social work, she is the founder of FRIEND Fiji—the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development, which is based in Lautoka.
The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, marking a significant moment for the new minister and her commitment to enhancing the welfare of women, children, and vulnerable groups in Fiji.
This transition in leadership is hopeful as Minister Kiran’s extensive experience in social work may lead to impactful changes and policies that promote protection and support for the country’s most vulnerable populations. Her dedication to social issues bodes well for the future of social protection in Fiji.
