Fiji has welcomed its newest Cabinet Minister, Hon. Sashi Kiran, who officially took her oath today as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House and was presided over by His Excellency the President, Turaga Bale Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Kiran steps into this role succeeding Lynda Tabuya, having previously served as the Assistant Minister under her guidance. With a strong background in social work, Kiran is notably the founder of the Lautoka-based NGO, FRIEND Fiji, which stands for the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development. This experience is expected to significantly shape her approach to her new responsibilities.

The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, highlighting the importance of this appointment in Fiji’s current administration.

This development marks a step forward for initiatives concerning women, children, and social protection in Fiji, and Kiran’s background suggests a commitment to these crucial areas. With her extensive experience in social welfare, there is optimism that she will drive forward impactful policies that can foster a better environment for vulnerable communities in the country.
