Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has been appointed the new President of the Republic of Fiji Islands. The appointment took place following a voting session in Parliament, where Ratu Naiqama was nominated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, while Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu nominated Ratu Meli Tora Tavaiqia.
In the roll call vote, Ratu Naiqama won decisively, receiving 37 votes compared to Ratu Meli’s 16 votes. Ratu Naiqama is set to be officially sworn into office on November 12, 2024.
