Fiji Welcomes New Lawyers: A Pledge to Integrity and Ethics

A total of 41 law graduates in Fiji were officially welcomed into the legal profession by Chief Justice Salesi Temo during a recent admission ceremony. Justice Temo stressed the importance of maintaining a positive reputation and adhering to ethical standards as these new legal practitioners embark on their careers.

In his address, Justice Temo underscored the gravity of their responsibilities, reminding the graduates that their conduct, both inside and outside the courtroom, reflects on the legal profession as a whole. He warned against misconduct, specifically highlighting issues such as drunk driving and public disturbance, which could tarnish their reputations.

“You are now formally legal practitioners of the High Court of Fiji,” he declared, emphasizing the seriousness of their new roles. Temo encouraged the graduates to uphold integrity and professionalism, as these qualities are essential for fostering public trust in the legal system.

Justice Temo also pointed out the challenges that lie ahead, stressing that their legal education serves as just the beginning of their journey as lawyers. He emphasized the need for continuous learning and discipline as they step into their new roles, highlighting that they now possess the capability to seek justice for their clients more effectively.

As part of his guidance, he articulated that their journey would involve supporting clients in navigating the complexities of the law, ensuring that they handle these responsibilities with compassion and diligence. By embodying the principles of good conduct, the graduates can contribute positively to the legal community and enhance the overall administration of justice in Fiji.

Overall, the ceremony served as an encouraging start for these new lawyers, inspiring them to approach their careers with the seriousness and ethical commitment that the profession demands.
