Fiji Welcomes New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea

Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the President of Fiji, recently officiated the commissioning of Jackson Bernard Nato Evans as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea during a ceremony at the State House. President Katonivere expressed his congratulations and best wishes to High Commissioner Evans as he embarks on this new chapter in his diplomatic career.

With a remarkable military background spanning over 35 years, Evans is well-equipped for his role. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) since his reappointment in 2011. His military experience includes a notable deployment as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment in Iraq in 2007.

Evans has achieved several notable accolades throughout his career, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership on two occasions in 1999 and 2000. During the commissioning ceremony, he was joined by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, and his family, highlighting the support around him as he steps into this important role.
