Fiji Welcomes New FCCC CEO: A New Era for Consumer Protection?

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced the appointment of Senikavika Jiuta as its new Chief Executive Officer. Jiuta brings with her a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to consumer rights, governance, and regulatory leadership. Her previous roles include serving as a Resident Magistrate, where she handled a diverse range of civil, criminal, and family law cases. Additionally, she has held significant leadership positions within the FCCC, including Manager for Legal, Risk Management, and Governance, and General Manager of Operations.

Manoa Kamikamica, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, described Jiuta’s appointment as a pivotal moment for both the commission and Fiji’s regulatory environment. He noted that her leadership will uphold the legacy left by her predecessor, Joel Abraham, who prior to his departure, significantly advanced consumer protections and regulatory practices within Fiji.

FCCC Board Chairman Cecil Browne also expressed enthusiasm for Jiuta’s appointment, highlighting her proven track record in strategic leadership and collaboration. Jiuta herself expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to the FCCC, emphasizing her dedication to ensuring fair competition and robust consumer protection in Fiji. She acknowledged the importance of the commission’s role in navigating emerging challenges, such as the rise of scams and unfair practices in the digital landscape.
