The Public Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Amenatave Yauvoli as the acting permanent secretary for Civil Service and Public Enterprises, effective immediately, following the endorsement of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Yauvoli returns to Fiji after a significant tenure as the country’s Ambassador to Indonesia, where he served for four years.

With an impressive background, Yauvoli previously held critical positions within the Fijian government, including permanent secretary for Commerce, Trade and Investment, as well as permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs. He brings to his new role dual Master’s degrees in Development Economics, obtained with honors from the University of Wollongong, Australia. His experience extends beyond these positions, having served in various capacities across the Pacific region—contributing to organizations such as the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in Samoa and the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat in Vanuatu.

Yauvoli is expected to leverage his extensive knowledge and skills particularly in environmental and climate change initiatives, vital for addressing regional challenges as Fiji continues to navigate its path forward. Current permanent secretary Parmesh Chand will remain in his position temporarily as he transitions to a diplomatic service role, which is an essential move for enhancing Fiji’s international diplomatic presence.

This appointment not only highlights the ongoing commitment to strengthening Fiji’s leadership but also reflects the government’s efforts to attract qualified professionals to ensure effective governance. With Yauvoli’s vast experience, there’s a renewed hope for development in Fiji’s civil service, underpinning a vision for a resilient and progressive administration that can foster growth and enhance partnerships throughout the region.
