Fiji Welcomes New Chief Justice: What’s Next?

Salesi Temo has officially assumed his role as the new Chief Justice of Fiji after taking his oath of office this morning at Government House. The oath was administered by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu in the presence of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, and other judicial officials.

Justice Temo’s appointment follows a recommendation from the Prime Minister and is in accordance with the Constitution of Fiji. An important aspect of the Chief Justice’s role is that in the event the President is absent or unable to fulfill their duties, the Chief Justice has the responsibility to carry out the functions of the President. Additionally, the Chief Justice serves as the Chairperson of the Judicial Services Commission, playing a vital part in overseeing the judiciary in Fiji.

As Justice Temo steps into this significant role, it brings a sense of hope for the development and integrity of Fiji’s judicial system. His leadership will be crucial in navigating the legal landscape and ensuring justice is served fairly and efficiently.
