Justice Salesi Temo has officially taken on the role of Chief Justice of Fiji following a ceremonial swearing-in today. He recited both the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath for the Execution of Judicial Office at a ceremony held at the State House, officiated by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. The event was attended by notable figures including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Speaker of Parliament Filimone Jitoko, various Cabinet Ministers, members of the Judiciary, and Permanent Secretaries.

Appointed as Acting Chief Justice in January 2023, Chief Justice Temo brings with him a wealth of experience from his three-decade career in the judiciary. His journey began in 1994 as a Resident Magistrate, and he served as Chief Magistrate from 1997 to 2000. Since June 2009, he has been serving as a Puisne Judge of the High Court and has also held positions in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Justice Temo’s ascension to the role of Chief Justice is expected to further strengthen the judiciary in Fiji, ensuring the rule of law and maintaining public confidence in the legal system. His extensive background and experience position him well to lead the judiciary into a new era.

This moment marks an important milestone for Fiji as it continues to evolve legally and institutionally, with hope for a fair and just society.
