Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya was officially appointed today as Fiji’s Ambassador Designate to the United Arab Emirates. The commissioning ceremony was led by Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who congratulated Ambassador Koya on his appointment and extended his best wishes for success in his new role.
This appointment is expected to enhance the opportunities for Fiji and the UAE to strengthen their bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Koya expressed gratitude to the Fijian government for its trust in him to undertake this significant diplomatic position.
Before his current role, Ambassador Koya worked as a Barrister and Solicitor and served as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Biosecurity Fiji. He earned a Bachelor of Laws with Honors and a Diploma in Higher Education in Law from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK in 1993 and achieved a Certificate in Legal Practice from the University of Tasmania in 1995.
Ambassador Koya was admitted to the High Court of Fiji in 1999 and has since presided over various cases, including criminal trials, civil trials, domestic violence issues, and family law proceedings such as adoption applications. The commissioning ceremony was also attended by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
