The Royal Princess cruise liner made a significant stop at Lautoka Port last Saturday, arriving with over 3,000 enthusiastic Australian tourists eager to explore the beauty of Fiji. Teki Tours’ freelance guide, George Hickes, took a group of visitors on an excursion to Nadi and the nearby Viseisei Village. He highlighted the positive repercussions of the cruise ship’s arrival, noting that local businesses in both Nadi and Lautoka experienced considerable profits.
Many tourists were seen boarding buses to enjoy various tours offered by Jet Set Town, signaling a boost in the local economy. Hickes, who is a retired driver with experience from reputable companies like Sun Tours Fiji, expressed his joy at working as a tour guide. He emphasized that such opportunities not only contribute to tourism but also help support the community by ensuring local businesses thrive. “To succeed as a tour guide, one needs to have a passion and love for their country,” Hickes mentioned, underscoring the significance of genuine engagement in creating memorable experiences for travelers.
Following its stop in Lautoka, the Royal Princess also visited the capital city, Suva, further enhancing the tourists’ experience by allowing them to explore the rich offerings of the city.
The arrival of the Royal Princess represents a hopeful sign for Fiji’s tourism industry, which is witnessing a resurgence driven by renewed international interest. This trend illustrates a promising future where local communities benefit from tourism, while visitors depart with cherished memories of their time in Fiji.
As the tourism sector rebounds, the excitement surrounding cruise ship arrivals is significantly contributing to economic growth and fostering local pride in Fiji’s stunning landscapes and cultural heritage.
