The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, developed by Carpenters Group Fiji, officially launched its first phase yesterday. At the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad emphasized that the $75 million investment underscores the significant role of the private sector in fostering economic growth and development in Fiji.
Situated at the Suva Foreshore, the initial phase of the project is scheduled for completion in August 2025. Steven Tucker, director of Sinclair Brook, the construction management company, mentioned that the endeavor is divided into three phases, with a completion timeline of five years.
Tucker noted the next phase, which encompasses retail development, is projected at approximately $80 million. He added that the subsequent hotel phase could reach around $120 million, though this estimate may change. He highlighted that the project is entirely privately funded without donor assistance.
Professor Prasad elaborated that the hotel will feature 178 rooms along with various amenities, including a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and parking facilities, complemented by backup power and water supply. The second phase of the project will focus on waterfront retail development, aiming to attract both local and international retailers.
He remarked that Fiji’s capability to draw significant investments like the Hilton Garden Inn is indicative of the confidence investors have in the country’s economy. Prasad attributed this confidence to the government’s commitment to sound fiscal policies, economic reforms, and the maintenance of macroeconomic stability, which enhance Fiji’s appeal as an investment destination.
He also noted the government’s progress in creating a supportive environment for both domestic and foreign investments and emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in various task force committees, valuing their contributions to government initiatives.
