The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel project, developed by Carpenters Group Fiji, commenced its first phase with a launch event held yesterday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, highlighted the $75 million investment as evidence of the vital contribution from the private sector towards economic growth and development in Fiji.
Situated at the Suva Foreshore, the first phase is set to be completed by August 2025. According to Steven Tucker, director of Sinclair Brook, the construction management firm overseeing the project, the entire initiative will unfold in three phases over a five-year period.
Tucker elaborated that the next phase, which includes a retail component, is estimated to cost around $80 million, followed by the development of a second hotel that could reach an investment of approximately $120 million, although these figures may change. He confirmed that the project is privately funded without any external donations.
Professor Prasad mentioned that the building will feature 178 rooms along with various amenities such as a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and parking facilities, complemented by backup power and water supply systems. The subsequent phase is expected to focus on a waterfront retail development, attracting both local and international businesses.
He further noted that Fiji’s capability to draw significant investments, exemplified by the Hilton Garden Inn project, underscores the confidence investors have in the country’s economy. Prasad emphasized that the government’s adherence to responsible fiscal policies and economic reforms has enhanced Fiji’s position as a competitive and appealing investment destination.
He also pointed out the government’s efforts in fostering an environment that facilitates both local and foreign private sector investments by actively involving private sector representatives in various task force committees to leverage their insights and expertise.
