Weightlifting Fiji’s head coach, Henry Elder, is brimming with optimism as the team gears up for a busy competition schedule in 2025, following a successful series of trials over the past two months. With only one trial left to complete, the athletes are making final preparations for several international competitions.
The next significant event on the horizon is the Youth and Junior Championships in Melbourne, Australia, set for next month. Elder plans to bring along approximately 12 lifters, contingent upon their qualifying performances. He is hopeful that between 10 to 12 lifters will qualify, with around five of them considered strong medal contenders.
Elder expressed his satisfaction with the lifting quality demonstrated during the trials. “So far, we have done very well. I’m very happy with what I’ve been seeing,” he stated, emphasizing that this year holds great potential for the team. The final trial is scheduled for the end of this month.
Beyond the immediate focus on Melbourne, the team has a packed calendar filled with key events, including the World Youths and World Juniors in Lima, Peru, the Pacific Mini-Games, and the Commonwealth Championships in India.
Weightlifting Fiji’s unwavering commitment to rigorous training and talent development signifies its ambition to excel on the international stage. This proactive and encouraging approach instills hope for both the athletes and the nation, as they aim to achieve recognition in the competitive weightlifting landscape.
The ongoing dedication shown by Weightlifting Fiji aligns with national goals in sports, showcasing a collective effort toward excellence and inspiring the athletes to perform at their best in the upcoming competitions.
