Fiji Weightlifting Star Just Misses Olympic Medal in Thrilling Competition

Fiji-born Australian weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal, finishing fourth in the women’s 81kg category. She achieved a personal best and an Oceania record with a lift of 117kg in the snatch. Cikamatana also performed well in the clean and jerk, lifting 145kg for an overall total of 262kg. Despite her impressive efforts, she did not secure a podium position. Norway’s Solfrid Koanda took gold with an Olympic record total of 275kg, while Egypt’s Sara Ahmed earned silver with 268kg and Ecuador’s Neisi Dajomes captured bronze with 267kg. Cikamatana plans to compete in Fiji next month at the Commonwealth Weightlifting qualifying Championships, followed by the World Championships in December in Bahrain.
