Weather Update: The District of Moist and Thunderous

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at the crack of dawn on Monday, December 22, 2025

Attention all weather-watchers! A delightful little trough of low pressure is hanging out over the Fiji group, bringing a party of clouds and showers that you didn’t even RSVP for! Meanwhile, a moist easterly breeze is sweeping across the islands, ensuring we’re all a little damp and cozy.

Here’s what your Monday looks like, folks:
Expect an encore of occasional showers, with a few surprising heavy falls and thunderstorms crashing the party over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and some of their smaller buddies, as well as the eastern side of Viti Levu (that’s Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and Naitasiri-Tailevu-Ra), not to mention Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
For the rest of you, cloudy periods will flirt with the sun, but watch out for afternoon or evening showers and those unexpected thunderstorm guests.

With all those persistent heavy falls, we could be in for a splashy adventure—just be cautious of flash flooding in low-lying areas that may require a canoe to get around! Don’t worry, moderate to fresh easterly winds will keep things lively, and you might experience a few gusts in areas with those entertaining heavy showers and thunderstorms. The seas are moderate to rough, so hold onto your hats if you’re out there!

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the forecast persists with cloud cover and a hopeful sprinkle of showers over eastern Viti Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups—those places definitely know how to keep the moisture alive. Most other areas will be fine—just a few wayward afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms could pop in for an unexpected visit.
