Weather Update

Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi! It’s time to tackle the forecast for today, January 9th, 2026, so grab your umbrellas, put on your rain boots, and let’s dive in!

Situation: Right now, there’s a lazy trough of low pressure lounging just to the southwest of Fiji, like that one uncle who comes over for dinner and never leaves. It’s bringing along its entourage of clouds and showers, and they’re planning to spread the party all over the group in the coming days.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the lovely Fiji group:
Prepare for occasional showers and a splash of excitement with a few thunderstorms. Kadavu and those fun-sized islands nearby, along with the southern Lau group, may experience some heavy drenching! Meanwhile, the rest of you can expect cloudy patches with some showers sneaking in, especially during those afternoon and evening hours. Watch out for those isolated thunderstorms that might just decide to throw a surprise party in low-lying areas—flash flooding could make things a bit *interesting*. Expect moderate east to northeast winds and seas that are moderately choppy, just enough to keep you on your toes.

Now, let’s see what the weather gods have in store for Sunday:
The party continues with occasional rain over Navua, Suva, Nausori, and various beautiful provinces, from Serua to Ra and even including the scenic Lau and Lomaiviti group. In other regions, we may get lucky with fine weather, but still, keep an eye out for those cheeky afternoon or evening showers! Flash flooding is still on the table—oh joy!
