Weather Update: The Quite Possibly Cloudy Chronicles
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 4:38 PM on Monday, December 22, 2025
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A persistent weak trough of low pressure has decided to settle down over the northern parts of the group, bringing some cloud cover and showers as its plus-one. This duo is set to party across our lovely islands until tonight. Meanwhile, a moist easterly wind flow is sweeping through the country like a friendly tropical breeze.
Now, what’s on tap for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow? Expect a bit of a cloudy soiree with potential showers and maybe—just maybe—a few heavyweight thunderstorms crashing the party over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the surrounding smaller islands. Eastern Viti Levu (that’s Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and Naitasiri-Tailevu-Ra for anyone following along on the map), as well as Lau and Lomaiviti groups, might also feel the thunderous vibes.
Elsewhere, it’ll be mostly fine, but don’t be too surprised if an afternoon or evening shower or two drops in uninvited. Just a reminder: those isolated heavy falls might really go for it, so watch out for potential flash flooding in low-lying areas. The winds will be moderate to fresh, with a few gusts in areas where the heavy showers are putting on a show, and the seas will be feeling moderate to rough, so keep those seafaring adventures for another day!
Looking ahead to Wednesday: The cloudy saga continues with some showers expected over the eastern parts of Viti Levu, along with Lau, Lomaiviti, Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, and the Yasawa group. But don’t fret too much—elsewhere, expect it to be mostly fine aside from the customary afternoon or evening shower, possibly accompanied by a dramatic thunderstorm or two.
In terms of temps, tomorrow we’re looking at minimums around 23°C and maximums hovering around a balmy 30-33°C.
