Fiji Weather Update: Trough Brings Showers and Thunderstorms Across Northern and Eastern Fiji with Heavy Falls

Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 12:45pm on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

So, here’s the scoop: there’s a cheeky little trough of low pressure hanging out with some clouds and showers, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of our beloved islands.

As for the forecast until midnight tomorrow, get ready for some periodic showers, with heavy downpours making an appearance over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, and Ra. It’s like the clouds had too much caffeine and are bursting with enthusiasm. Kadavu and its smaller buddies, the Northern Division, Lau & Lomaiviti groups, can expect some cloudy wake-up calls with showers, and don’t be surprised if you see those sneaky heavy falls dropping in uninvited.

In most other places, it’s a fine day out, unless you run into isolated afternoon or evening showers trying to crash the party. Thunderstorms are also on the guest list for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu—how exciting!

The winds are putting on a moderate southeast to northwest performance but will shift to a southeasterly breeze tomorrow. And while the seas are moderate, they won’t be winning any beauty contests anytime soon.

Now, let’s peek into the upcoming weather for Monday: the rain dance continues with occasional showers in the same northern hot spots. More cloudy periods are expected with some showers over Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, Lau, Lomaiviti, Taveuni, and the usual suspects. The rest of us can enjoy fine weather, with just those pesky afternoon or evening showers popping up here and there.

Here’s a local breakdown for you:

In Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect the occasional shower, possibly heavier than the dog that follows you around for food. Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Today’s high is 28, and tomorrow will warm up to the same with a low of 23.

In Sigatoka/Coral Coast: It’s mostly fine, just watch for those pesky afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms. Today’s high 31, tomorrow a minimum of 23 and a maximum of 31.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: A repeat performance with fine conditions, aside from the whimsical afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Today’s high is a steamy 33, and tomorrow it will also reach 33 after a brief cool down at 23 overnight.

In Tavua/Rakiraki: Mostly fine, but expect those cheekily isolated showers and thunderstorms. Today’s high is 32, and tomorrow will match it with a minimum of 23.

Looking at Natadradave/Korovou: Occasional showers, heavy at times, with thunderstorms shaking things up later today. Today’s maximum is 28, and tomorrow it will creep up slightly to 30.

The Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Mostly fine with isolated afternoon/evening showers. Today’s high hits 31, and so will tomorrow.

In Labasa: Cloudy periods are likely with some showers, plus those thunderstorms crashing the picnic in the afternoon. Today’s maximum is 31 and tomorrow’s is unchanged.

For Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group, and Kadavu: get ready for cloudy periods with a few showers dropping by. Highs hover around 29, with a minimum of 23 across the board. Looks like you’ll need your umbrella handy!

Finally, Rotuma: A low-pressure system is treating you to occasional showers and that thunderstorm flair. Expect a high of 30 and a cozy minimum of 25 for tomorrow.

Happy weather watching, and may your rain dances be successful!
