Weather Update

Good morning, folks! Here we are on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, with a fresh take on the weather straight from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi.

First up, let’s raise a toast to the cancellation of that strong wind warning for our breezy friends in Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their smaller island buddies in the Northern Lau group. It seems like Mother Nature has decided to chill out a bit!

In more delightful news, the heavy rain warnings that had Viti Levu, the Mamanuca Group, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, and the Southern Lau Group scrambling for cover have also been called off. You can finally put away the umbrellas… or maybe just keep them handy, because life’s unpredictable, right?

However, for our friends in the Northern Divisions, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, the heavy rain warning has been downgraded to an alert. Just think of it as rain that’s gone from “crazy waterfall” to “gentle stream” mode.

But wait, don’t pack your boats and catch any sunsets just yet! A flash flood alert is still waving its flag with enthusiasm across the entire Fiji group. So, if you’re planning on splashing about, always keep a weather eye out!

Now, let’s get down to the forecast part, shall we? Tropical Depression TD03F is having a little tango northwest of Yasawa-i-rara but promises to be on its way before you know it. This might mean occasional rain (sometimes heavy) and some isolated thunderstorm drama over Vanua Levu, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti groups until late Friday. The rest of us? Expect partly cloudy skies with just a few random showers – like the weather’s trying to remind you of the ‘chance of rain’ drama!

As for those winds, they’ll be moderately fresh from the north to southeast, maybe a little gusty in areas where heavy rain decides to throw a party. The seas will be moderate to rough, so if you’re on a boat, hold on to your hats!

Now onto tomorrow. The forecast for Thursday keeps the rain theme alive – occasional heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms might just put on a spontaneous show over the usual suspects. In other parts, expect part cloudy conditions with a sprinkle here and there. And yes, those seas will still be trying to impress with their ‘moderate to rough’ demeanor.

Specific spots? Here we go:

– For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Partly cloudy with a few showers. Min: 22, Max: 28.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Same song, different dance. Min: 22, Max: 29.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Continuing the trend – Min: 23, Max: 29.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Becoming a local favorite with Min: 22, Max: 29.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Prepare for some drama with occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms. Min: 23, Max: 29.

And don’t forget our friends in Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni, who will also see some rainfall excitement with similar min-max ranges for your weather app.

Lastly, for Rotuma: Expect some rain, a dash of thunderstorms, and winds that might blow your hat off. Min: 24, Max: 28.

So folks, stay dry, stay safe, and don’t forget to enjoy the lovely show that nature puts on for us!
