Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 4:36 PM on the delightful Tuesday of January 21, 2025.

What’s the scoop? A delightful moist breeze from the northeast is sweeping through the islands. But hold on to your umbrellas! A pesky trough of low pressure is making its way from the west and looks ready to rain on our parade starting Thursday.

Here’s what’s happening for Fiji until midnight tomorrow:

For: Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Ra-Naitasiri, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove, northern Bua, Kadavu, Taveuni, all those charming little islands nearby, Lau, and the lovely Lomaiviti groups:
Today: Expect a sky covered with clouds, interspersed with a few showers and a chance for afternoon or evening thunderstorms that could turn into quite the splash fest.
Tomorrow: More clouds and a sprinkle of brief showers to keep things interesting.

And for the rest of Fiji: Mostly fine weather, except for those sneaky afternoon or evening showers that may just come in and crash the party. Thunderstorms could also show up, potentially pouring down some heavy falls. If you live in flood-prone areas, keep an eye out for possible flash flooding – because who doesn’t love a pop-up lake in their backyard?
Moderate northeasterly winds are in the cards, along with seas that are nothing if not moderate.

Outlook for Thursday: We’re looking at cloudy skies with a side order of showers and some isolated thunderstorms for Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and those nearby tiny islands. Other areas can expect partly cloudy skies with afternoon or evening showers and some thunderous shenanigans.

Now, let’s break it down by region:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Today, get ready for some lovely clouds and a chance for those dramatic thunderstorms. Tomorrow, the clouds will stick around but with a brief shower or two. Thursday still looks cloudy with a bit of splash.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts! Expect some afternoon or evening showers and the thunderstorm brigade to swing by. Thursday keeps the interesting weather going with partly cloudy skies and a shower or two.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Enjoy the fine weather, but be ready for those mischievous afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Thursday forecasts similar scenes.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Clouds will be your companions, with brief showers in Rakiraki. Elsewhere, expect a sunny break until the afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms come to play.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Sunshine with a side of afternoon/ evening showers and a sprinkle of thunderstorms. Thursday will be a bit party cloudy with more showers and bolts of lightning.

For Labasa: More fine weather shining bright, but those sneaky afternoon showers and thunderstorms will still pop in.

For Savusavu: Cloudy vibes, with some showers and the thunderstorm squad coming through. Tomorrow brings more clouds and brief showers.

For Lau and Lomaiviti: Clouds are joining the fun, bringing showers and thunderstorms today. More of the same on the agenda for tomorrow.

For Kadavu: Clouds and showers are your friends today with a chance of those rambunctious thunderstorms. Tomorrow, expect a lighter shower forecast.

For Rotuma: The island is under a gentle northeast wind flow, with cloudy periods and some showers to keep things cozy.

So get out those cute umbrellas and prepare for the weather to shake things up a bit!
