Weather Alert!
Issued by National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:43 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025
Brace yourselves, beachgoers and umbrellas alike! A STRONG WIND WARNING is still waving its flag for Yasawa, Lau, Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu, and their smaller island pals. So, if you were planning on an afternoon frolic on the beach, you might want to think twice—or perhaps bring a kite!
On top of that, we have a HEAVY RAIN WARNING that covers all of Fiji, as if the clouds can’t get enough of their own drama.
CURRENT SITUATION: Tropical Cyclone Rae (no, he’s not a pop star) is currently south of our beautiful waters, moving on and taking the heavy winds with him. But don’t pack away your raincoats just yet; an active trough of cloud and rain is giving Fiji an unexpected shower party.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow:
For Yasawa, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and their smaller island buddies:
Prepare for fresh to strong northwesterly winds! We’re talking speeds of up to 55 km/h and gusts that might have you holding onto your hats, reaching 80 km/h! Rain showers will drop in with occasional heavy bursts, accompanied by a thunderstorm or two. So if you hear a drumroll, it’s just Mother Nature! Localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Don’t worry; the rain will decide to clear out by tomorrow.
For the rest of Fiji:
More of the same—occasional rain, sometimes heavy, and a few electric performances from thunderstorms. But rest assured, the rain will kindly leave by tomorrow. Expect moderate to fresh northwesterly winds that might make your laundry day a bit more breezy and interesting, along with some rough seas.
Outlook for Thursday: Looks like more rain will start from the west, so perhaps practice your water ballet moves?
Now, let’s break it down regionally!
For Navua / Suva / Nausori:
Rain, rain, go away… well, it’s here at least until tomorrow. Expect fine weather in the morning before the rain sneakily returns in the afternoon like an uninvited guest.
For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:
The rain still wants to hang out, but it will say its goodbyes tomorrow. Just a heads-up that your umbrella may have a second job come Thursday!
For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
The rain is crashing your beach party too, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Heavy showers will clear tomorrow, only to make a triumphant return Thursday.
For Tavua/Rakiraki:
Heavy downpours are expected—surprise!—but it will bless us with a fine morning tomorrow before the afternoon rain shenanigans begin.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca Group:
Strong northwesterly winds will keep things exciting with wind speeds up to 55 km/h and gusts up to 80 km/h! Rain is in the forecast as well, but it’ll make a swift exit by tomorrow. More rain will join the party on Thursday.
For Labasa & Savusavu:
Heavy rain continues to be the life of the party but will finally give you a break tomorrow. Get ready for fine morning weather before more rain comes to play in the afternoon.
For Lau/Lomaiviti & Kadavu:
Hold onto your hats—those strong winds are sticking around! Expect some rain, but tomorrow is when we start seeing some sunlight before the clouds cuddle back in on Thursday.
For Rotuma:
A cloudy day with some showers seems to be the theme, with moderate to fresh winds sweeping through. Seas will be moderate to rough—think of it as the ocean’s way of throwing a tantrum.
Outlook for Thursday: More clouds and showers on the menu!
So there you have it, folks! Stay safe out there, keep your umbrella up, and maybe polish up on your rain dance moves while you wait for the sunshine to return!
