Weather Update – April 19, 2025
Attention, all weather watchers! If you’ve been waiting for a little action in the sky, you’re in for a treat. There’s a weak trough of low pressure creeping over Fiji, doing its best impression of a lazy Sunday. Expect those clouds to leave their mark with showers hanging around until tomorrow, because they are simply not ready to say goodbye just yet!
Here’s what you can expect before midnight:
For Kadavu and its charming little neighbors, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti: It’s a rain dance this evening with occasional showers and a sprinkle of potential thunderstorms. Not quite a full-on celebration, but still a chance to enjoy nature’s percussion section!
For the rest of Fiji, it appears to be a game of ‘cloudy periods.’ With a bit of drizzling here and there, you might want to keep that umbrella handy—especially in Vanua Levu and the eastern half of Viti Levu (looking at you, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri). We may even see the occasional heavy downpour, resulting in some very localised flash flooding—so watch out low-lying areas, the water is coming for you!
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the southwest to northerly side, so it’s a great time to practice your hat-holding skills if you step outside.
Now, when looking ahead to Monday, we’re in for a mixed bag! Expect cloudy weather with a chance of brief showers flitting about Nadroga/Navosa, Serua/Namosi, and other lovely spots, while everyone else might get lucky with some sunshine. Just remember, isolated afternoon or evening showers are still in the cards, because Mother Nature loves a dramatic plot twist!
Specific area break down:
– Navua, Suva, Nausori: Hazy with a side of showers, followed by afternoon thunderstorms making a surprise appearance.
– Sigatoka and Coral Coast: Feeling a bit gloomy with showers, but a touch of sunshine could sneak in for a cameo on Monday.
– Nadi, Lautoka, Ba: Expecting cloudy shenanigans with the usual shower accompaniments. Monday might just be your day for a bit of sunshine, so keep those hopes up!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: A cloudy evening, followed by showers. But Monday is looking fine minus a few sneaky isolated showers.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Yep, cloudy with showers (shocking, I know). Expect a few thunderstorms for excitement!
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Get ready for some cloud cover and showers. But fear not, Monday looks like a fine day ahead.
– Labasa & Savusavu: Both places are holding planned showers and those surprise thunderstorms (surprise!).
– Lau/Lomaiviti & Kadavu: Expect occasional showers and a bit of thunder – the weather really wants to keep things interesting for you!
And finally, the charming island of Rotuma is under the spell of a moist easterly wind flow, promising fine weather with only brief showers. Not too shabby! Monday will maintain its cloudy demeanor with brief showers, but we can work with that, right?
Stay dry out there, keep your spirits high, and remember to dance in the rain when you can!
