Weather Update – 22 January 2025

The severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall has been officially put to bed, much like your neighbor’s home karaoke nights that we all pretend not to hear. Viti Levu, Bua, and western Cakaudrove can breathe a sigh of relief for now!

What’s happening? Well, we’ve got a cozy and humid northeast wind flow wrapping Fiji in a warm embrace (so you might want to ditch those sweaters). Meanwhile, a naughty little trough of low pressure is lurking in the distance, ready to crash the party starting tomorrow.

So, what’s on the horizon for Fiji until midnight Thursday?

For our friends in Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Ra, Naitasiri, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, and all the way to Kadavu and Taveuni:
– Today: The skies are feeling a bit shy—partly cloudy with just a sprinkling of showers.
– Tomorrow: Expect cloudier skies with some scatterings of showers and those dramatic afternoon thunderstorms. It could get heavy, so grab your galoshes because localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

For the rest of our beautiful Fiji:
– Today: It’s a lovely fine day, aside from the light overnight sprinkle that feels like nature’s dry run.
– Tomorrow: It’s partly cloudy with a cameo appearance by a few showers and some surprise thunderstorms. Hold onto your hats—localised heavy falls may put a damper on your plans if you live in flood-prone areas.

Moderate northeasterly winds will be fluttering about, and the seas are moderate too, just enough to make your fishing trip feel like a mini adventure.

Looking ahead to Friday, expect more clouds and those cheeky showers making a return with isolated thunderstorms, especially in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and a few other spots where the clouds seem to have gotten a little too comfortable. Be prepared for those surprise downpours!
