Fiji Weather Update: Occasional Showers and Thunderstorms Expected, Flash Flood Risks in Low-Lying Areas

Weather Bulletin

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30pm on Monday, March 31, 2025

Situation: Apparently, Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody and has decided to throw a backyard BBQ party in the northern part of the country! A trough of low pressure is hanging out, bringing along a few clouds and showers for the festivities over the next few days.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Expect sporadic dancing showers and the occasional rumble of thunder over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and those smaller nearby islands, along with a few party crashers in the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, and Serua-Namosi. Yes, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra will also join in the shower shenanigans. Prepare for some isolated heavy downpours that might just have you making a run for cover.

For everyone else, don’t worry, it’ll be mostly fine, except for those pesky afternoon or evening showers preparing to rain on your parade. And the thunderstorms over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu? Well, let’s just say they’re going to bring their A-game with heavy falls.

Just a heads up: localised and consistent heavy showers may result in flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, so consider yourself warned! Winds will be on the moderate side, blowing southeast to northwest, and the seas will be moderately behaving.

Outlook for Wednesday: Get ready for another round of occasional showers over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra. Afternoon or evening showers will carry on elsewhere, and those thunderstorms? They’re not done yet, especially over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Expect moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and seas that might get a bit rough.

For Navua/Suva/Nausori:
Occasional showers and some occasional friendly thunderstorms joining the fun.

Outlook for Wednesday: More occasional showers hanging around.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba:
Looking fine for the most part, but brace for some afternoon or evening showers that might crash the party. Thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely to make an appearance too, so keep an umbrella handy!

Outlook for Wednesday: Partly cloudy with some afternoon or evening showers and the odd isolated thunderstorm.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
Mostly fine, aside from those pesky afternoon or evening showers that might just drop by uninvited. Thunderstorms with heavy downpours might also join the fun.

Outlook for Wednesday: Partly cloudy, with afternoon or evening showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

For Tavua/Rakiraki:
Occasional showers and the occasional thunderstorm over Rakiraki too. Elsewhere, you’ll find fine weather, except for those party crashers in the form of afternoon or evening showers.

Outlook for Wednesday: Occasional showers over Rakiraki with some clouds hanging about elsewhere, promising a little intrigue with afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.
