Fiji Weather Update: Occasional Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Across Multiple Regions

Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:27 AM on the delightful first of April 2025.

What’s Happening? A pesky trough of low pressure has decided to settle over the northern parts of the country, bringing along its cloud and shower entourage. Expect them to stick around for a few days, so if you see them in the neighborhood, don’t be alarmed; they’re harmless—mostly!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for Fiji:
We’ve got the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, along with Kadavu and their smaller island buddies, the Northern Division, Yasawa & Mamanuca groups, and the southern trio of Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra all scheduled for occasional showers and the infamous isolated thunderstorms. Yes, you heard it right! Isolated heavy downpours are also likely, so grab those umbrellas, folks!

Now, for the rest of you, the sun might actually show its face! Expect fine weather, except for the usual afternoon or evening showers—those guys just can’t help themselves. Just when you thought you had a break, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu may decide to throw in a few afternoon thunderstorms. Talk about a grand entrance!

Caution: Watch out for localized heavy rain that might try to turn low-lying areas into lakes!

Winds will be moderate, shifting from southeast to northwest, with seas behaving moderately as well—so not ideal for a deep-sea plunge, but suitable for a paddle.

Outlook for Thursday: Occasional showers continue to spread their love over Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and their little islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca, plus Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra. While afternoon or evening showers will dab the rest of the scenery, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu might encore their afternoon thunderstorms, accompanied by some heavy falls. Winds will freshen up a bit with moderate to rough seas throwing in a delightful splash.

Detailed forecasts for various localities:
– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional showers play peekaboo, with a cameo from thunderstorms.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: All clear, except for some evening showers and a potential thunderous performance.
– Sigatoka / Coral Coast: Fine until the skies decide to shower us intermittently.
– Tavua / Rakiraki: Occasionally shower-worthy, with Rakiraki getting some extra thunder.
– Yasawa / Mamanuca: Just your usual sprinkle and thunder combo.
– Labasa: Get ready for those occasional showers—just not too much of a splash!
– Savusavu: More of the same with occasional showers and thunderstorms.
– Lau / Lomaiviti: Showers continue to take center stage.
– Kadavu: Showers show up for an encore performance.
– Rotuma: Enjoy relatively fine weather with brief showers popping by.

So, let’s batten down the hatches and keep those raincoats close, Fiji! You never know when a thunderous surprise might be lurking around the corner.
