Fiji Weather Update: Occasional Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across the Islands

Weather Update

Hey there, fellow weather watchers! It’s your friendly neighborhood meteorologist here with the latest weather gossip that’s shaking up Fiji.

As of 6:50 AM on this fine Thursday, March 20, 2025, we’ve got a rather lazy trough of low pressure hanging around like a sloth at a buffet. It’s moving slower than a turtle on a leisurely stroll, which means we can expect some clouds and showers to drop by uninvited over the next few days. So if you were planning a picnic, you might want to keep your umbrella handy!

Here’s what’s brewing for the Fiji group until midnight:

– The eastern half of Viti Levu (yes, that includes Serua/Namosi through Navua to Suva and friends) is in for occasional showers and possibly some isolated thunderstorms. It’s like Mother Nature’s way of saying, “Surprise!” Plus, we may see showers crank up to a full-blown rain party today.

– Cakaudrove and southern Bua will see a bit of cloud action with some showers joining the mix.

– For the rest of you, fine weather is on the menu, unless you’re outside in the afternoon or evening when showers might just crash the party.

Heads up for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu—afternoon thunderstorms with heavy downpours are looming like unexpected guests, and they could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Keep an eye on those umbrellas (and your flip-flops)!

Tomorrow’s forecast (that’s Friday, if you’re counting): Occasional rain and a sprinkle of thunderstorms will be gracing Lau, Lomaiviti, and the eastern half of Viti Levu. It’s a wet and wild theme, folks! Cakaudrove and southern Bua, you’re in on the fun too.

Let’s break it down by the place:

For Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Occasional showers with some potential for thunder—sounds like a great time for indoor activities!

For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: Fine weather for most of the day, apart from those pesky afternoon and evening showers.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Similar vibes to Nadi—sunshine with a flair for afternoon showers.

Tavua/Rakiraki is expecting showers with potential heavy falls—better keep those raincoats close.

Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Enjoy the fine weather, but expect a few random showers to drop by!

In Labasa: Expect some fine weather too, just don’t be surprised if it rains a bit in the afternoon.

For Savusavu: Cloudy periods with a sprinkle of showers. Afternoon thunderstorms are on the way, so stay alert!

And for those around Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: It’s a parade of occasional showers and some rumbles of thunder through the days ahead.

If you’re on Rotuma, the easterly winds are keeping things cool, but don’t forget your rain jacket as showers and storms are forecasted!

So there you have it, folks! Keep those rain boots handy and enjoy the weather circus. Until next time!
